Lure Coursing - K-9 Korner Lure Coursing - K-9 Korner

Lure Coursing is a sport for Sight Hounds and their people to enjoy. In Lure Coursing , an Artificial Lure is set up on an area called a course. Usually the course is a large field, about 600 or more yards, set up with multiple turns to stimulate that of game, such as a rabbit. The course may or may not be fenced. Sight hounds concentrate on the Lure, so running off course is rare.

To Qualify in the
American Sighthound Field Association (ASFA) competitions, the dogs must “run clean” , meaning they don’t interfere with the other dog running. ASFA judges, judge a dog that runs against a dog of the same running style . AKC coursing requires the dog to compete and earn a Junior Coursing title (JC) before competing in Open Stakes for the Senior Courser (SC) title, and so forth. Dogs competing in Europe, need a Coursing License or Racing License in which can be obtained through a coursing or racing club.

Dogs are grouped in breed Braces (2 dogs) or Trio’s (3) , that in which, depends on the number of dogs available at the competition. Dogs could run alone if there are no other dogs of the same breed running, the dog however, must run against and defeat , a dog in the Best of Breed run, in order to be qualified for a title.
